Elaine Pillay
Elaine Pillay was born in Durban. Her biggest dream, since she can remember, has always been to be a writer. However, taking her father’s advice that she needed to eat and live and therefore needed a real job, she decided to study teaching. The holidays, she thought, would lend themselves to writing.

Elaine was nominated for a writing award by the Sunday Times, and the nomination further convinced her that writing was her calling. She has written academic books and short stories. “Zwai and the Little Creature” is her first children’s book.

In March 2017, she represented South Africa in Fiji Islands at the Centennial Celebration of the Abolition of Indentured Labour in Fiji. She currently resides in Johannesburg with her husband and their fur babies, Cola Bear and Lilo Pops. Elaine spends her days as an English Teacher.
